An equipment inventory, a brief “how-to”, and procedures for borrowing the society’s hydrogen-alpha solar telescope are now on the AAS Web site. General information about both the 8-inch Dobsonian and the PST scope are at http://www.auburnastro.org/loaners.htm . The “how-to” is at http://www.auburnastro.org/pst.htm , and the inventory/check-out and return check-list, prepared by Mack Acheson, is at http://www.auburnastro.org/pst-list.htm . I’ll be returning the PST to Rhon at Friday’s meeting. Let him know if you want to be added to the waiting list. Would you like to have a link from the navigation frame menu to the loaner scopes? Let me know. Currently the only link is from the “benefits of membership” section of the FAQ page. The University of Alabama has replaced their antique 10-inch refractor with a 16-inch Ritchey-Chrétien telescope from DFM Engineering. http://www.astr.ua.edu/PublicNights.html
Is this some sort of perverse funding ploy or are they for real? http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/space/01/24/hubble.funding/ Mark your calendars. Astronomy Day 2005 will be on Saturday, April 16 at the W. A. Gayle Planetarium. Rick Evans writes: Do you have any suggestions for a topic for Astronomy Day this year. I need to get that project started and in the works...it will be here before you know it otherwise. The 2005 Georgia Sky View hosted by Flint River Astronomy Club has been cancelled. Indian Springs State Park is currently in renovations which will not be completed until June. We have searched throughout the state of Georgia for another site with comparable skies and accommodations and we were unable to locate one that fit all our needs. We have already started planning the 2006 Georgia Sky View which will be back at Indian Springs State Park in the spring and will be a 3 day event. I will send out a message once the dates for 2006 are locked in.
